빛과 사물의 조응 : 시각의 추상적 흐름 읽기

전시서문

• 경주솔거미술관은 경상북도에서 활발하게 활동하는 중견작가를 초대하여 그들의 예술세계를 조명하고 경북 미술계의 활성화와 역량 제고에 기여하고자 경상북도 중견작가 초대전을 기획, 운영하고 있습니다. 이번 전시에는 최영조, 예진영 작가를 초대하여 전시를 개최하였습니다.
• 최영조, 예진영 작가는 서로 다른 장르인 수묵화와 유화를 바탕으로 작품 활동을 이어가는 중견작가 입니다. 두 작가의 작품을 살펴보면 공통적인 지향점이 발견됩니다. 바로 사물이 빛에 반응하는 장면을 포착하여 자신만의 조형적인 언어로 캔버스에 그려낸다는 것입니다. 빛과 사물의 조응은 우리 눈이 사물을 파악하는 기본 조건입니다. 이번 전시에서 우리가 사물을 인식하는 단계에서 작가들이 놓치지 않고 포착하는 조응의 순간과 작가가 회화의 추상성을 어떻게 발전시켜서 작품으로 형상화 하는지에 대해 들여다보고자 합니다.
• 예진영 작가는 자연에서 발견할 수 있는 바람의 흐름과 빛의 움직임 등을 점토와 알루미늄, 핀 등을 활용하여 하나의 큰 흐름이 있는 화면을 구성하여 자연과 우주가 만들어내는 조응을 자신만의 조형성으로 선보입니다. 예진영 작가가 만들어 낸 작품 속 응집체들은 거대한 자연을 구성하는 유기체들의 집합이며 전체를 이루는 부분들을 의미합니다. 흐름이라는 것은 단수의 객체가 작용하여 만들어 낼 수 있는 것이 아닙니다. 흐름을 만들어내는 작용을 위해 반응 할 수 있는 복수의 개체가 필요하고 반응에 의하여 흐름은 생성되고 소멸됩니다. 예진영 작가의 작품이 만들어낸 빛, 바람, 물의 흐름들은 궁극적으로 ‘조화로움’이 가진 아름다음을 우리에게 보여주고 있습니다.
• 최영조 작가는 자연 풍광에서 발견할 수 있는 빛의 흐름과 변화에 주목하여 자연이 가진 아름다움을 화폭에 펼쳐냅니다. 주된 소재는 매화이며, 과거 선조들이 마음 수행을 위해 즐겨하였던 문인화의 의지를 이어받아 동시대 미술로 재현하고 있습니다. 매화는 맑은 하늘 아래 흐드러지기도 하고, 무성한 숲 속에서 아름다움을 발산하기도 합니다. 최영조 작가는 매화 기행을 하며 마음속에 들어온 풍경들에서 느낀 그 순간의 감동을 화폭으로 옮겨 담습니다. 특정 시간의 공기의 흐름과 온도 습도, 빛의 양은 모두 다릅니다. 그렇기에 최영조 작가의 매화는 닮은 듯 서로 다른 분위기를 만들어내고 있습니다. 자연이 만들어내는 시공간의 흐름이, 같은 종류의 꽃이라도 수백만 가지 인상을 만들어 낼 수 있다는 것을 최영조 작가의 매화를 통해 확인할 수 있습니다. 같은 듯, 서로 다른 매화꽃을 통해서 최영조 작가는 자연이 만들어낸 아름다움이 어떻게 우리에게 기억되고 각인되는지를 보여주고 있습니다.

Light and Object Coordination Reading the Abstract Flow of Visual

Choi Young-Jo, Ye Jin-Young.

• The Gyeongju Solgeo Museum of Art is planning and operating an invitation exhibition of the North Gyeongsang Province veteran artists to highlight their art world and contribute to revitalizing and enhancing the North Gyeongsang art world. In this exhibition, Choi Young-jo and Ye Jin-young were invited to hold the exhibition.
• Choi Young-jo and Ye Jin-young are veteran artists who continue their work based on different genres of ink painting and oil painting. Looking at the works of the two authors, a common orientation is found. It captures a scene in which an object responds to light and paints it on canvas in its own formative language. The coordination of light and objects is a basic condition for our eyes to grasp objects. In this exhibition, I would like to look at the moment of correspondence that the artists capture without missing in the stage of recognizing objects and how the artist develops the abstractness of painting and embodies it as a work.
• Artist Ye Jin-young uses clay, aluminum, pins, etc. to create a screen with a large flow of wind and light that can be found in nature, and presents the coordination created by nature and the universe with his own formality. The aggregates in the work created by Ye Jin-young are a collection of organisms that make up huge nature and mean parts that make up the whole. Flows are not created by a single object. Multiple objects are needed to react for the action of creating a flow, and the flow is created and destroyed by the reaction. The flow of light, wind, and water created by Ye Jin-young's work ultimately shows us the beauty of harmony.
• Choi Young-jo draws attention to the flow and changes of light that can be found in natural scenery and unfolds the beauty of nature on the canvas. The main material is plum blossoms, and they inherit the will of literary paintings that our ancestors enjoyed for the performance of their minds in the past and reproduce them as contemporary art. Plum blossoms are both flamboyant under clear skies and radiate beauty in lush forests. Choi Young-jo transports the emotion of the moment he felt in the landscapes that came into his mind while traveling the plum blossoms to a canvas. The airflow, temperature, humidity, and amount of light at a specific time are all different. Therefore, the apricot flowers of Choi Young-jo look alike and create different atmospheres. The flow of time and space created by nature can be seen through the plum blossoms of Choi Young-jo that even the same kind of flowers can create millions of impressions. Likewise, through different apricot flowers, Choi Young-jo shows how the beauty created by nature is remembered and imprinted on us.
