경북작가 공모전 <관념산수-귀향>

• 최성원 작가는 진경(眞景)을 채집해서 관념(觀念)을 통해 작품을 걸러낸다. 작품 속에는 딱딱한 리듬이 있는 것 같으면서도 틀에서 벗어나려는 무위(無爲)를 꿈꾸고, 복잡한 경계가 시선을 사로잡는 듯 하면서도 어느 순간 평화로운 여백에 안착한다. 그렇게 나타난 여백은 보는 이로 하여금 안락함을 주는데 이는 사(似)와 불사(不似) 사이의 사투를 통해 만들어 낸 작가의 혼신(魂神)이다.
• 여백은 모든 예술가가 이겨내고 만들어내야 할 의무적 공간이지만 그렇다고 모든 예술가가 이 공간을 사랑하지는 않는다. 그만큼 애를 써야 나타나기 때문에 매력적인 만큼 오랜 도전이 필요하다. 작가는 이러한 도전을 즐기며 여백 이외의 공간 또한 치열하게 자신의 마음을 담아내려 애쓴다. 겹겹 쌓인 동·서양 재료들의 축적이 그 흔적들이며 생각의 여운들이다.
• ‘관계’ 속에서 그려내는 아주 촘촘한 인드라망이 작가의 작품에서 보여지는 건 오래된 고민과 숙련의 결과물이라 할 수 있다. 그것을 우리는 ‘응축(凝縮)의 진일보(進一步)’라 정의한다. 그런 즉, 결과물의 이미지화를 통해 작가가 보여주고자 하는 또 다른 관계가 어떠한 상관을 통해 새로이 정의되고, 응축된 시각(視覺)이 관계의 형성과 추측의 기준을 통해 어떻게 발현되는지 살필 수 있는 좋은 전시가 될 것이다.

• Artist Choi Seong-won collects true-view and filters his works through ideas.
• Although there seems to be a hard rhythm in his works, he dreams of idleness to depart from the standard pattern, and while the complex boundary seems to catch the eye, it settles in a peaceful blank space at some point. The blank space that appears in this way gives comfort to the viewer, and it is the artist's soul which was created through the struggle between similarity and dissimilarity.
• The blank space are an obligatory space that every artist must overcome and create, but not all artists love this space. As it is attractive, it is necessary to challenge for a long time because it takes so much effort to appear. The artist enjoys these challenges and struggles to capture his heart fiercely in spaces other than the blank space. The accumulation of stacked East and West materials is the traces and the lingering imagery of thought.
