• 오혜선 작가의 작업은 항상 ‘under’에서부터 시작된다. ‘under’는 어둡고 우중충하지만 드러나지 않는 치열함이 존재하고, 멋지게 드러내는 잘생긴 얼굴처럼 주류는 아니지만 항상 어딘가로 우리네를 데려다주는, 부르트고 지저분한 발바닥 같은 비주류들의 공간이다. 햇살이 들지 않는 축축하고 습한 ‘검은 숲(Black Forest)’에 곤고하게 뿌리내린, 남들의 관심사에서 벗어난 그 음지를 작가가 주목하는 이유는 그 속에 나와 같은 뿌리가 공존하고 있기 때문이라 믿기 때문이다.
• 일반적으로 뿌리를 뚫고 나오는 생명들은 우리가 흔히 생각하는 지식을 통한 시각적 연관성을 담아내기 일쑤지만 작가는 그 속에 식물의 범주를 벗어난 더 밝은 이미지를 떠올리고자 한다. 그러기 위해 -작품을 통해- 음지를 대중들에게 먼저 이해시킨 다음, 음지를 벗어나 열매를 맺기까지의 과정과 결과를 순차적으로 그려내고 있다. 더불어 과정 속에서 일어나는 여러 모티브 혹은 삶의 일상들을 다양한 재료들을 통해 단편적으로 구현한다.
• 작가의 음지찬양은 죽음과 환경을 통해 시작되었고 본인과 동일시 되면서 진행 중이지만 그렇다고 음지가 항상 음지는 아님을 작품을 통해 드러내 보이고자 한다. 초록 잎사귀가 생겨나고, 양지를 향해 뻗어가는 희망을 품는 이들이 생겨난다. 이러한 변화의 희망을 작가는 대중들과 공유하고 싶어 하며, 결국 음지든 양지든 그 중심에는 작가 자신이 존재하고 있음을 증명하고자 한다.

• Oh Hye-sun's work always starts from "under." "Under" is dark and gloomy space, but there is a sense of fierceness which is not exposed. And it's a space of non-mainstreamers like blistered, messy soles that always take us somewhere, even though they’re not the mainstream like a handsome face that reveals nicely. The artist pays attention to the shade, which has been firmly rooted in a damp and humid "Black Forest" without sunlight, because she believes that the same roots as her coexist in it.
• In general, lives that come out of their roots usually capture visual connections through knowledge that we often think of, but the artist wants to come up with a brighter image that is beyond the category of plants. To do this, she first understands the shade to the public through her works, and then sequentially draws the process and results from leaving the shade to bearing fruit. In addition, various motifs or daily lives that occur in the process are embodied fragmentarily through various materials.
• The artist's praise of the shade began through death and the environment and is in progress while identifying with herself, but she wants to show through the works that the shade is not always the shade. Green leaves grow, and there are some people who have hopes that extend toward the sun. The artist wants to share this hope for change with the public, and in the end, she wants to prove that the artist herself exists at the center of it, whether it is in the shade or in the sun.
