• 경주솔거미술관과 이타미준건축문화재단 유동룡미술관은 경주의 랜드마크로 자리매김한 <경주타워>의 저작권자로서 건축가 이타미 준의 40여년의 건축 세계를 담은 회고전을 진행합니다.
• “나는 풍토, 경치, 지역의 문맥(context) 속에서
  어떻게 본질을 뽑아내 건축에 스며들게 할지를 생각한다.”
• 일본에서 태어난 한국인 이타미 준(본명 유동룡)은 평생을 한국 국적을 유지한 재일 한국인 건축가로, 경계인으로서 살아갔던 그의 삶과 건축에 담긴 메세지들은 여전히 우리 시대에 큰 울림을 주고 있습니다. 경주엑스포 솔거미술관은 이번 이타미 준 회고전을 통해 우리 삶과 가깝게 맞닿은 건축이라는 분야를 전시를 통해 새롭게 소개하면서도, 이타미 준의 작업세계에 담긴 메세지를 우리 시대 안에서 함께 이어나가고자 합니다.
• 70-80년대 팽배했던 화려하고 요란한 현대 건축이 아닌, 인간의 온기와 자연의 야성미가 담긴 균형과 회복의 건축을 추구했던 이타미 준은 40여 년 동안 자신만의 철학을 관철하며 그만의 오리지널리티를 만들어갔습니다. 이타미 준의 건축은 기능 중심의 건축이 아닌 본질에 대한 고민과 자연과의 조화를 추구했던 초기작부터 자연과 인간 사이의 매개체로서의 건축을 추구했던 말기 건축까지, 언제나 그 땅의 소리에 집중했던 그의 건축 철학을 만나게 합니다. 풍토뿐만 아니라 지역의 정신세계까지 아우르는 역사와 문화를 건축 안에 품으며, 그야말로 그 땅 위에 자리 잡은 건축의 본질과 지역성을 보여줍니다.
• 2004년, 공모전을 위해 이타미 준이 설계한 ‘경주 엑스포 공모전’ 작품 또한 신라의 천년고도로서 그 문화를 이어온 경주의 풍토와 역사, 문화를 의식하며 ‘부활하는 신라’를 기념하고자 했던 작업이기도 합니다. 이번 전시는 경주엑스포 솔거미술관에서의 회고전을 계기로 이타미 준의 대표 건축 작품을 ‘경주 엑스포 공모전’ 전후의 시기별로 나누어 세 개의 테마로 소개합니다. 수많은 고뇌 속에서 균형과 회복, 그리고 관계를 이야기했던 이타미 준의 건축을 통해 우리가 지금 시대에 이어가야 할 이야기들을 함께 만나보는 시간이 되기를 바랍니다.

ARCHITECT OF THE WIND : ITAMI JUN

• As the copyright holder of the Gyeongju Tower, which has established itself as a landmark of Gyeongju, Gyeongju Solgeo Art Museum and the ITAMI JUN Architecture & Culture Foundation ITAMI JUN MUSEUM are holding a retrospective exhibition on the 40-year architectural world of architect Itami Jun.
• "In the context of the climate, the scenery, and the local setting, I think about how to draw out the essence and infuse it into architecture."
• Itami Jun (born Yoo Dong-ryong), a Korean born in Japan, was a Zainichi Korean architect who maintained Korean citizenship throughout his life. The messages contained in his life and architecture as a person living between borders still resonate greatly in our time. Through this retrospective exhibition, Gyeongju Solgeo Art Museum aims to introduce the field of architecture, which is closely connected to our everyday lives, while sharing the messages embedded in Itami Jun’s body of work.
• Itami Jun pursued architecture of balance and recovery that embraced human warmth and the wildness of nature, rather than the flashy and noisy modern architecture that prevailed in the 1970s and 1980s. He built his own originality by consistently following his philosophy for more than 40 years. From early works that explored the essence of architecture beyond functional concerns, to later works that envisioned architecture as a medium between humans and nature, Itami Jun’s projects embody an architectural philosophy that always listened to the voice of the land. His architecture embraces history and culture, encompassing not only the natural context but also the spiritual heritage of each place, and demonstrates the essence and locality of architecture rooted in its site.
• In 2004, Itami Jun designed the 'Gyeongju Expo Competition' project, which sought to commemorate the “Resurrecting Silla,” reflecting on the landscape, history, and culture of Gyeongju, the thousand-year capital of Silla. This exhibition, held at Gyeongju Solgeo Art Museum, introduces Itami Jun’s representative works across three themes, divided by the period before and after the Gyeongju Expo Competition. Through his architecture, which spoke of balance, recovery, and relationships amid countless reflections, we hope this will be an opportunity to encounter stories that we must carry forward in our time.
