2천여 년 전 우리 선조는 ‘신라(新羅)’라는 이름을 내걸고 인드라망처럼 연결된 네트워크를 통해 그 덕(德)을 세상 구석구석에 전하고자했다(德業日新 網羅四方). 이정 작가는 그들의 네트워크를 바탕삼아 필묵(筆墨)의 ‘그윽하고도 그윽함(玄玄)’을 우주 질서 속에 담아내려 노력하고 있다.
오랜 궁리(窮理)를 통해 드러나는 작품들은 천지현황(天地玄黃)이 내뿜는 우주불변의 근원적 질서를 무심한 필치로 세속화 시키고, 문자를 통해 드러나는 역동성을 움직임 이전의 우주로 환원하려 한다. 그 과정을 수행하는 인간은 거저 작은 거름망일 뿐이다. 그러나 이 작은 거름망이, 걸러진 혹은 걸러지기 이전의 세상을 자유자재로 운영하며 촘촘한 망라의 그 옛적 세상을 현재의 시각으로 다시 그려내는 중요한 매개이다. 그 매개(媒介)의 체(體)가 바로 이정 작가이다.
작가는 문자를 우주에 걸어두기도 하고, 땅속에 뿌리기도 하며, 혹은 문자 이전의 감각과 직감을 즐기며, 이 모든 게 어디로 회귀하는지를 살핀다. 문자를 빌려 질서를 그려내는 것이다. 그 질서는 분별심과 문자 이전의 시공(時空)에서 이루어지는 무언의 소통이다. 우리는 그것을 문자라 이름했지만 실상은 이심전심(以心傳心)의 심인(心印)이다.
이정 작가는 문자를 다루는 예술가이다. 서예(書藝)의 범주를 넘어선지 오래고, 문자로 소통한지 오래다. 망라(網羅)는 서예를 넘어선 문자 소통의 새로운 질서를 확립하기 위한 기초작업의 출발점이 될 것이다.
Some 2,000 years ago, our ancestors named Shilla(新羅) and tried to spread the virtue all over the world through a network connected like Indramang(德業日新 網羅四方). Based on their network, artist Lee Jeong is trying to capture ‘the deep and deepness(玄玄)’ of pen and ink(筆墨) in the order of the universe.
Works revealed through long consideration(窮理) try to secularize the immutable fundamental order of the universe emitted by the heaven and the earth(天地玄黃) with casual touches and to return the dynamics revealed through letters to the universe before movement. However, this small strainer freely operates the world after or before it is filtered and is an important medium to redraw the old world of the dense network with the present perspective. The style of medium is artist Lee Jeong.
The artist hangs the text in space, traps it in the ground, or enjoys his pre-text sense and intuition and then he looks where it all goes back(回歸). It is to draw order by borrowing text. The order is unspoken communication in discernment and in time and space(時空) before the text. We named it a text, but it is actually an inner enlightenment(心印) of telepathy(以心傳心). Lee Jeong is an artist who deals with text. It has been a long time since he went beyond the scope of calligraphy and communicated through text. Encompassing (網羅) will be the starting point of the basic work to establish a new order of text communication beyond calligraphy.
